Schlein takes the lead on tariffs: "Enough pandering to Trump, Europe knows where to strike to hurt."

"Up until now, there has only been one meeting between our prime minister, European Commission President von der Leyen , and US Vice President Vance some time ago, following which Trump decided to increase the threat of tariffs to 50%. Negotiations then continued. I ask the Italian government to strongly support the European negotiations and stop being complacent."

This was stated by Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein on the sidelines of a meeting with Udu students in Paestum for the Revolution Camp . "If the interests of American Big Corporations also need to be put on the negotiating table," she added, "it must be done because we need to demonstrate that, as a European market of 500 million inhabitants, we too are capable of striking where it hurts and stopping this trade war with an agreement that is certainly a compromise—otherwise you won't get the deal—but one that doesn't cross some essential red lines, such as those regarding citizens' health and the protection of citizens' privacy."
